DID WE ROCK YOU?

April 12, 2010
Wow was that fun! I knew playing the hits of Queen was going to be a spectacular event but things certainly took on a life of their own beyond that--whether it was somebody from the chorus (Spencer was his name I think) coming forward to ask their girlfriend in the audience to the prom (thank God she said yes), or whether it was seeing the show choirs rocking to "Bohemian Rhapsody", or whether it was glimpsing at all the cell phones swaying in the audience to "We Are The Champions" (and let's face it--WE ARE!).

Kudos to our operations staff for making sure all the gear, lighting and staging were in place. And how about those show choirs from Kennedy, Prairie, and City High. They really came through for us, and represented their schools brilliantly. I'm not sure if they truly understood what they were in for when they first signed up, but MY PERSONAL FAVORITE MOMENT was during the beginning of the second half when everything opened up and the choir sang "We Are The Champions". I wish I knew her name, but there was a young lady in the chorus who was absolutely brimming. Overcome with the spectacle of it all, the look of joy, wonder, and even a tear or two was a
snapshot that I will never forget.

Having the enthusiasm of our Follies Family who also joined in the choir was a real treat, and I can't thank them enough for sharing the fun. And you know things were going to get interesting when five of our administrative staff also took to the stage to sing their hearts out--they were rock stars for a day--TAKE THAT "GUITAR HERO!"

I'm all smiles today as yet again Orchestra Iowa has surprised our city and proven that orchestras can add a lot of excitement to a community.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this event. The symphony, choirs and Jeans 'n Classics ensemble combined to make it a spectacular memorable evening. We had previously attended the Beatles and Eagles series and they just get getting better and better. Bravo to you all for your time and efforts. If I could make a wish list I would love to see the symphony invite and perform with Roger Hodgson (Music of Supertramp) and Dennis Deyoung (Music of Styx) :)

This was so much fun. Thank you for bringing it to Cedar Rapids! I was sitting between a 12 year old girl and a man in his eighties. All three of us were waving our cell phones. Love it!

I loved it and my 10 year-old was on the edge of his seat the entire performance! What a great way for me to enjoy music from my teen years and encourage my elementary bass player at the same time!

I loved the fact that people in their 60's were in the audience standing on their feet with their arms in the air swaying to the music of the 70's and 80's. What a memorable night to share with my teenage daughter. Thank you so much!
