Founded in April 1921, Orchestra Iowa is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in continuous operation west of the Mississippi River. Its 82 professional musicians perform more than 150 public performances to more than 44,000 people throughout Eastern Iowa each year, many of which can be heard on Iowa Public Radio and seen on Iowa Public Television.

The performance season runs from September 1 through June 30 and includes Masterworks, Popular, and Chamber Series, as well as educational concerts, run-outs, and collaborations with other arts organizations including the University of Iowa’s Hancher Auditorium and the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre. Additional chamber music and community engagement programs are offered to the thirteen musicians that comprise the Orchestra’s string quartet, woodwind quintet, and brass quintet.

Orchestra Iowa performs throughout Iowa’s Cultural Corridor and is geographically located in and around several metropolitan areas. Many members of the orchestra are able to take advantage of this and maintain active private studios, teach at high schools, and are on faculty at several universities including the University of Iowa (Iowa City), the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls), Luther College (Decorah), Drake University (Des Moines), Cornell College (Mt. Vernon), Mt. Mercy College (Cedar Rapids), and Coe College (Cedar Rapids).
