Early Childhood Programs

The Symphony School offers a variety of programs for children from infants to grade school.

Music Together®

Music Together® is a program designed to help parents nurture their child's musical growth. It provides developmentally appropriate music and movement instruction to infant, toddler and preschool children and their parents or caregivers. The Music Together® approach develops every child's birthright of basic music competence by encouraging the actual music experience. 

 Ages: Birth through 5 years old
 Tuition: $130 per session consisting of ten 45-minute classes, once weekly
  ($75 for a sibling over 6 months, siblings birth-6 months FREE!) 
Schedule: Fall - 10 weeks beginning September 13, 2010
  Winter - 10 weeks beginning January 3, 2011
  Spring - 10 weeks beginning March 26, 2011 
  Summer - 10 weeks beginning June 27, 2011
 Location: Marion Christian Church, 1050 McGowan, Marion

Music for Little Mozarts

Join music friends Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear for a musical adventure this school year!  This curriculum is a comprehensive approach to musical learning that develops singing, movement, listening skills, and beginning piano skills along with an introduction to musical styles and concepts.  The story of Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse sets the stage for music study. Other characters throughout the levels help introduce students to the major composers. Sessions are consecutive and students must complete Level One before moving onto Level Two. Parents are welcome to observe or participate, but not required.

 Ages: 4 to 6 (Child must be 4 years old prior to September 14, 2010)
 Tuition: $160 per 13-week session, 45-minute classes once weekly
 Schedule: First Semester: Level One at 5:30 p.m.
  Tuesdays beginning September 14, 2010
 
  Second Semester: Level One at 5:30 p.m.
  Level Two at 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays beginning February 1, 2011
 Location: Symphony Center

Pied Piper Concerts

Join Orchestra Iowa’s talented chamber ensembles as they introduce preschool-aged children to the instruments of the orchestra! Focused on fun and learning, Pied Piper Concerts offer children the opportunity to enjoy an up-close and personal chamber concert absolutely FREE! 

Concerts, each 30 minutes in length, are held at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday 1:30 and 2:15 p.m., Thursday and Friday at 9:30, 10:15 and 11 a.m., and Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Iowa City Public Library during each week scheduled.  Advance registration for the Cedar Rapids concerts is required for groups and encouraged for families. Contact the Symphony School at 319.363.3960. No advance registration is necessary in Iowa City.

  Percussion Ensemble: January 26-29, 2011
