Shauna Rolston, cello
Chenette Rural Symphony
Elgar Cello Concerto
Beethoven Symphony No. 3 (Eroica)
The Eroica or “heroic” Symphony of Beethoven began as a one-time personal tribute to Napoleon though later retracted when the military commander crowned himself Emperor. Nevertheless, the work went on to become recognized universally as the single piece of music that moved Western civilization from the Classical period to the Romantic. Equally powerful is the Elgar. The angst, despair, and disillusionment felt by the composer at the end of World War I are evident in what has become one of the most beloved cello concertos ever written. Shauna Rolston, named by Musical America as a “Young Artist to Watch,” has become one of the most compelling musicians of her generation.
