Setting the dramatic tone for this program, local hero, Conor Hanick returns home to perform Prokofiev’s fiery 3rd Piano Concerto. With recent appearances with Pierre Boulez, and acclaimed performances at Lincoln Center, we are proud to present this local talent made good. Nielsen and Sibelius, who personified the national musical language of their prospective countries (Denmark and Finland) round out the concert. Helios, named after the Greek god of the sun, serves as a perfect compliment to Sibelius’ most famous symphony in that both project a power and majesty inspired by the landscapes of their homeland.
