The season opens on the lawn of Brucemore with the music of two empires, and begins with Edward Elgar’s solemn and beautiful “Nimrod” played in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001.
Weren’t invited to the royal wedding earlier this year? Fear not as the first half features music from the nuptials and signature British works by William Walton, Gustav Holst, and Sir Hubert Parry. Joining the Orchestra for the two Coronation Anthems will be a combined 150 member chorus.
From the British Empire to the Roman, the second half kicks off with the Parade of the Charioteers
from Ben Hur and concludes with Respighi’s greatest work, Pines of Rome
Bring your family and friends, blankets and lawn chairs, picnics and a bottle or two, and enjoy the start of the season with one of Cedar Rapids most popular outdoor concerts.
Note: In the event of inclement weather, this performance will be held Sunday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m.
