Orchestra Iowa 2009-2010 Season Opening Concert - Burana at Brucemore
Cedar Rapids, IA. – Orchestra Iowa will open its 88th season with an unforgettable evening of entertainment at Brucemore, Saturday, September 12. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the performance begins at 7 p.m. Three choruses and three critically-acclaimed vocal soloists will join the orchestra to present this program featuring Orff’s “Carmina Burana”.
General admission tickets for Burana at Brucemore, sponsored by CRST, are $7 in advance and $10 at the gate. Tickets may be purchased online at www.orchestraiowa.org or by calling 319.366.8203 or 800.369.TUNE (8863). Tickets are also available through the Orchestra Iowa Ticket Office, 119 Third Avenue SE, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets are nonrefundable. If necessary, the rain date is Sunday, September 13.
Enjoy an evening under the stars as Orchestra Iowa presents Burana at Brucemore. Bring your lawn chair and a picnic and join Maestro Hankewich and the Orchestra as they present the symphonic and choral masterpiece, “Carmina Burana”. Cash and checks will be accepted at the gate. Daniel Kleinknecht will conduct the first half of the concert featuring baritone Christopheren Nomura performing Rossini’s “Largo al Factotum” from The Barber of Seville, soprano Celena Shafer performing Korngold’s “Marietta’s Lied” from Die Tote Stadt, and tenor Nathan Granner performing Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot. Maestro Hankewich leads the orchestra, soloists and three choruses (Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale under the direction of Fred Kiser, Children’s Discovery Chorus under the direction of Damon Cole, and Coe College Concert Choir under the direction of Marc Falk) in the second half which features “Carmina Burana”.
