Orchestra Iowa presents "Reflections" featuring Mozart's Requiem - March 20 & 21

March 03, 2010
Cedar Rapids, IA – Orchestra Iowa presents “Reflections”, Saturday, March 20 at 8 p.m. at Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe College campus, and Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at West High School in Iowa City.

Single tickets for “Reflections”, sponsored by Attorneys for the Arts, are $14-$24-$39 and may be purchased online at www.orchestraiowa.org or by calling 319.366.8203 or 800.369.TUNE (8863). Tickets are also available through the Orchestra Iowa Ticket Office, 119 Third Avenue SE, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.– 5 p.m.

Mozart’s Requiem is arguably the composer’s greatest achievement. Though left to others to complete after his untimely death, it remains to this day one of the most significant settings of the sacred text.

The program will open with Prater’s Promise and Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending featuring Orchestra Iowa Principal flute Jane Walker and Concertmaster Takuya Horiuchi. The second half of the program will include vocalists Mary Wilson, soprano, Elisabeth Bieber, mezzo-soprano, Alan Bennet, tenor, Christopheren Nomura, baritone and the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale, under the direction of Fred Kiser, performing Mozart’s Requiem with Maestro Hankewich and the orchestra.

Join Maestro Hankewich and guest artists for the “Insight” discussion before the concert. “Insight” will begin at 7 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium, and 1 p.m. at West High School and is open to all patrons in attendance.

Founded in April 1921, Orchestra Iowa is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in continuous operation west of the Mississippi River. Its 82 professional musicians perform more than 120 public performances throughout Eastern Iowa each year, many of which can be heard on Iowa Public Radio and seen on Iowa Public Television.
